My v-band clamp was secured on the underside of the factory downpipe. After that, it did go back in, but it was still a pain.Ħ. What a PITA! I boogered up the end pretty bad, so in order to reinstall, I had to take a razor knife and trim an 1/8" (up to the first rib line) off the bottom of the grommet. I thought this would help with the dipstick removal, but I was kicking myself pretty hard when I went to reinstall it. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT remove that little rubber grommet from the transmission. I got away with keeping the dipstick in, I did completely remove the nuts that clamp the dipstick in place, but it loosened up enough to manipulate the tube enough to work the factory downpipe and heat shield out.ĥ. Doing these things prior to trying to muscle out the heat shield and downpipe will save you tons of time.Ĥ. When MBRP recommends front pipe and trans dipstick tube removal for install, they're not kidding. Also, gear wrenches are nice to have for the trans dipstick bolts (12mm IIRC)ģ. An 11mm deep socket and a 3/8" wobble extension is invaluable. Give yourself plenty of time for the install. I'm done, but I figured I'd do a quick write up and share some discoveries I made, and lessons learned.ġ. I held off on installing it due to the mixed reviews it got on ease of installation. I bought this thing years ago (no kidding, it's been 4 years) and it has sat in the garage collecting dust since.
